Gas Station of the Future?

Take a look at this article from our friends over at Engadget regarding the need for electric vehicle charging stations and the initiatives being undertaken across the country:

DC Fast Charger joins the ECOtality EV charging station fleet, looks like a fuel pump

You can't help but smile, can you? ECOtality's latest entrant into the rapidly expanding Blink line of EV chargers looks awfully familiar to avid motorists, and for good reason. Designed to mimic a conventional petrol pump, the DC Fast Charger should blend right in when installed in Best Buy parking lots, gas stations and beyond, with the company aiming to get these positioned in a wide variety of locations in order to ease "range anxiety." We're also told that motorists will eventually be able to utilize the Blink Network Smartphone Application in order to locate the nearest charging station and receive GPS directions, and an RFID-enabled payment system makes it easy to drain your wallet, rejuvenate your vehicle and get you back on the open road. There's even a 42-inch LCD on the top, and while it's primarily engineered for ads and information, we're sure a few wire swaps would have your Xbox 360 displayed in no time flat. The DC Fast Charger should be hitting 16 major American cities in the near future, and there's a video after the break to tide you over.

Future of GPS?

Take a look at this article from one of our favorite sites CNET.com We don't know about you guys but we here at Lance Consulting would love to see this in our next car. Let us know what you think!

Get lost and take a long, hard look in the mirror. That's the message from Ford as it launches a new Garmin sat-nav integrated directly into your car's rear-view mirror.

The MirrorNavi, an after-market accessory that replaces your existing rear-view mirror, was designed and built by Garmin and Wollnikom. It consists of an ordinary mirror and a 320x240-pixel, 89mm (3.5-inch) touchscreen display nestling on the far left side.

The mirror is fairly ordinary. It lets you see what's going on behind you and dims automatically at night to reduce glare. The sat-nav portion is more impressive, though. The unit is based on Garmin's nuvi 265T, so, although it's tiny, it's packed with the features you'd expect from a larger model.

Voice prompts tell you where and when to turn; voice-recognition navigation lets you speak instructions aloud; lane assistance keeps you in the proper lane; 'trafficTrends' calculates routes based on predicted traffic levels; and FM traffic lets you know when there are accidents and roadworks.

The MirrorNavi features built-in solid-state memory, containing UK maps, and can be upgraded via a microSD card. You also get a built-in Bluetooth adaptor, which allows the driver to wirelessly connect the device to a mobile phone, placing and receiving calls over the unit's built-in speakers.

The MirrorNavi can be installed in any Ford car (except the Ranger and 2009 Ka) by local Ford garages for £300 plus installation charges.

That's pretty steep, especially when you consider that the nuvi 265T costs somewhere in the region of £130. The MirrorNavi does have its benefits, though: wires are neatly hidden, it leaves no tell-tale suction marks that might attract thieves, and it does at least require you to glance in the general direction of your rear-view mirror every now and then.

If all of this sounds appealing, then drive your Ford to a local dealer pronto.

Here Goes Nothing!

Hello Everyone,

So I have started my new company Lance Consulting LLC and could not be happier.

I am currently in the process of tweaking my website and garnering all the feedback I can on it. I was fortunate enough to have my brother in law Tom Oddi do great deal of the design work with the material I provided him. The website is constantly growing and changing so make sure to check back often.

I plan to use this blog space to educate my customers and the general Dekalb County population when it comes to technology. I plan to provide weekly videos on how to solve common technological household problems and well as the do's/don'ts when it comes to purchasing and setting up electronics. Furthermore, I will do my best to link to other interesting tech related articles I come up with ranging from money saving deals to helpful hints.

Make sure to follow Lance Consulting LLC on twitter and become a fan of our page on Facebook.

Thanks!
